COMiNG UP: OiNK! #15

When I bought my first ever comic (or rather, my parents bought it for me) it was OiNK #14. I was instantly hooked. I still am 35 years later. As enthralled as I was with the 32 pages of hilarity, I was even more excited for what was to come. The idea of returning to these funny characters (who were like nothing I’d ever experienced before) every fortnight was incredibly exciting and Uncle Pigg made sure those excitement levels would remain sky high until the next issue with not one, but two Next Issue promos.

The first was for the free gift to end all free gifts as far as I was concerned. It wasn’t a small double-page poster, it wasn’t a badge and it wasn’t a Highland Toffee Bar. It was a giant, three-part calendar poster drawn by Ian Jackson himself. The first part on its own promised to be huge. What on Earth was the finished article going to look like on my wall?! Well, in the present day it hangs on my home office wall and even as a fully grown (physically at least) adult it’s still giant!

But that wasn’t all. I’d missed out on The Street-Hogs and J.T. Dogg‘s incredible artwork in the early issues, so I wasn’t prepared for Ham Dare: Pig of the Future. I was aware of Dan Dare and the Eagle comic, probably from my brother or my friends, so I knew what this was parodying but I’d no idea just how much fun it was going to be. This preview of the art, the promise of new characters and that free gift had me convinced and my first ever regular comic order was placed with my newsagent alongside it.

Come back on Monday 15th November 2015 to check out the full review.

COMiNG UP: OiNK! #14

Coming up later today is the latest OiNK review and it’s personally a very special edition for me. You see, #14 of the funniest comic ever created was my first ever issue back when I was a mere eight-years-old (well, at the time I would’ve said nearly nine) and it was quite the experience! But not only was this issue my first OiNK, it was my first comic.

I didn’t get it until the following week after release though, because I distinctly remember being excited at how it was only one week instead of two until the next issue. So next Monday I’ll be posting up a little something to mark the occasion. For now, please look forward to the review and a few select highlights of the one that started this whole shebang.

COMiNG UP: OiNK! #13

As happy coincidences go you can’t get much better than the thirteenth issue of your comic also being the one on sale over Hallowe’en. The creators of OiNK certainly weren’t going to let this slip by unnoticed and the creepy comic would celebrate the spooky season in style with a special shivering logo and a cover by Ben Turner you just have to see!

Jon Langford‘s Next Issue promo from the pages of #12 sets the tone for what promises to be an exceptional issue. Not only does it contain hilarious themed strips, readers would also find a Tom Thug/Weedy Willy crossover and a monster movie-like spoof introducing one of the most loved characters from the comic’s entire run.

Come back Monday 18th October 2021 for the full review, if you dare!

COMiNG UP: OiNK! #11

After twelve episodes (including the preview issue) the first epic tale for The Street-Hogs was coming to an end but they were going out with a bang(ers and mash)! Not only would their strip be extra long, they’d be on a special wraparound cover poster and the issue itself would have the theme of motorbikes, biking and general road rambunctiousness. To mark the occasion #10 had this large Next Issue advert.

As far as we kids were concerned only the most special of comics issues had wraparound cover posters (ask any Transformers fan) so make sure you’re here on Monday 20th September 2021 for the next issue in our continuing real time read through of the world’s greatest, and funniest, comic!

Before then, if you’ve missed the Street-Hogs episode featured already on the blog, you can click here to go and have a chuckle.
