On Saturday 30th July 1988 something appeared in the pages of Marvel UK’s comics that would remain a cherished memory for many readers for decades to come. It was The Mighty Marvel Checklist. From then until the end of 1989 they were basically a weekly shopping list for their devoted fans. A summary of their top titles on sale at that particular moment, they coaxed us into expanding our reading throughout the 18 months they were printed.
Using my Transformers and The Real Ghostbusters collections I’ll be showing off all of the checklists they contain, that’s 66 out of the 74 weeks it ran for. There’ll also be a collection of 68 contemporary adverts for Marvel UK’s comics to add a bit of pictorial interest to the text-based checklists (and they’ll plug those gap weeks).
