On Saturday 30th July 1988 something appeared in the pages of Marvel UK’s comics that would remain a cherished memory for many readers for decades to come. It was The Mighty Marvel Checklist. From then until the very end of 1989 they were basically a weekly shopping list for their devoted fans. A weekly summary of their top titles on sale at that particular moment, they coaxed us into expanding our reading throughout the 18 months they were printed.
Now, using my Transformers and The Real Ghostbusters collections I’ll be showing off all of the checklists these comics contain, 66 out of the 74 weeks they ran for. There’ll also be a collection of 68 adverts for Marvel UK’s comics to add a little bit more pictorial interest to the text-based checklists (and they’ll also plug those eight gap weeks).
